Finding Purpose and Healing

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Januaries, the fourth of six children, endured profound hardship after losing his mother in 2019 to HIV-related complications. His father had abandoned the family years earlier, leaving the children to fend for themselves. After their mother’s passing, his eldest sister shouldered the responsibility of providing for the family but was forced to leave school and marry early. The second-born sibling then took on odd jobs to support the family, until her struggles came to light and intervention became necessary.

It was then that MCF stepped in, offering Januaries and his siblings not just a safe home, but a future filled with hope and opportunity. Though the road to healing was not easy, Januaries found his breakthrough in martial arts. Karate became more than a sport—it became a source of discipline, focus, and strength, helping him process his pain and transform his outlook on life.

From a ten-year-old boy rescued in 2021 to standing on the African podium at just fourteen, Januaries’ journey is nothing short of miraculous. Guided by God’s grace and MCF’s unwavering support, he discovered his calling in karate. In July 2025, he made history by winning Kenya’s first cadet-level bronze medal at the UFAK African Karate Championship in Abuja, Nigeria. Over the past three years, he has earned 22 gold medals and six silver medals, yet his humility and faith remain his defining qualities—a testament to the values instilled in him at MCF.

“As I departed for Nigeria, my prayer was not for personal glory, but that my performance would shine a light on MCF—that the world would see the incredible work being done at the place I now call home,” Januaries shared. His story is a powerful reminder that God can transform pain into purpose. His courage also inspires his younger sister, Elizabeth, who now follows in his footsteps.

Let us continue to pray for Januaries and the many other children and youth under MCF’s care, that each would find healing, hope, and their God-given talents. Pray that their stories would proclaim God’s faithfulness and inspire others to believe in His power to redeem and restore.
