About Mully Children’s Family
Who founded Mully Children’s Family, and why?
Mully Children’s Family (MCF) was founded in 1989 by Dr. Charles Mulli and his wife, Esther. Having risen from a life of poverty and homelessness to become a successful entrepreneur, Dr. Mulli felt God calling him to sell his business interests and devote his life to rescuing and raising vulnerable children in Kenya. Together, Charles and Esther began by opening their home, dedicating themselves fully to saving and transforming children’s lives.
What is MCF’s mission and vision?
MCF’s mission is to rescue, restore, and empower children who have been abandoned, abused, orphaned, or neglected. Our vision is to see lives transformed through Christ’s love so every child has the opportunity to thrive and become a leader who brings lasting change to their community.
Why is MCF called “The World’s Largest Family”?
We call MCF “The World’s Largest Family” because every child who joins us becomes part of a loving, Christ-centered home, not an institution. Each year, approximately one thousand children are welcomed as sons and daughters, and that family continues to grow across communities, borders, and generations. Since its founding 35 years ago, MCF has rescued and supported more than 30,000 children, helping them rebuild their lives through love, education, and opportunity.
How many children are currently in your care?
MCF currently cares for more than 8,000 children daily.
Where are MCF’s homes and programs located?
MCF operates multiple children’s homes and programs across Kenya, with major campuses in Ndalani, Yatta, Lodwar, and Malindi. Beyond these homes, MCF reaches into surrounding communities through outreach programs that provide education, healthcare, and family support to those in need.
Our Work and Programs
How does MCF rescue and care for children?
MCF works closely with local police, courts, and community leaders to identify children living in unsafe or vulnerable situations. When a child is rescued by MCF, they are welcomed into a loving, family-centered home where they receive shelter, nutritious meals, clothing, education, medical care, and counseling.
What kinds of education and vocational training does MCF provide?
MCF provides a full continuum of education, from preschool to high school, vocational training, and higher education through Mully College. All programs meet Kenya’s national curriculum standards and emphasize leadership, character development, and spiritual growth, equipping students with practical skills and a strong foundation.
How do you meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the children?
MCF provides holistic care that meets a child’s physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual needs, helping them heal and grow in every area of life. Our approach is guided by the Mully Model, a Christ-centered way of life built on Love, Faith, Hope, Prayer, Forgiveness, Humility, and Peace.
Each area of care reflects one or more of these core values in action:
-
Physical care: Nutritious meals, safe housing, medical treatment, and access to clean water ensure every child’s health and safety.
-
Emotional care: Trauma counseling, mentorship, and a loving community help children find belonging, confidence, and hope.
-
Spiritual care: Rooted in Christ’s love, MCF provides Bible-based teaching, discipleship, and daily opportunities for children to grow in faith and purpose.
What is Mully College, and who can attend?
Mully College is MCF’s accredited institution of higher learning, registered under Kenya’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA). The college offers three-year diploma programs and certificates in areas such as agriculture, business, welding, carpentry, tailoring and dressmaking, hairdressing and beauty therapy, and catering and hospitality.
Students come from both MCF and neighboring communities, gaining practical skills, professional training, and spiritual grounding that prepare them to excel in the workforce, start businesses, and serve their communities.
Does MCF offer ongoing support after graduation?
Yes. MCF continues to support young adults as they move into independence, helping them pursue higher education, find employment, and build meaningful lives as ambassadors for Christ. Many have gone on to become teachers, doctors, pastors, engineers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders raising families of their own. Some alumni remain closely connected, returning to support the ongoing efforts of MCF.
How does MCF address community needs beyond the MCF campuses?
With a desire to love like Jesus, our compassion does not stop at our property lines. MCF serves communities across Kenya through outreach programs designed to strengthen families and address cycles of poverty, abuse, and abandonment. These initiatives include clean water access, agricultural job opportunities, free medical care, disaster relief, and support for the disabled, elderly, and widows.
By meeting practical needs and sharing God’s love, MCF helps restore hope and stability so communities can flourish, families can stay together, and children can grow up in safe, nurturing homes.
